Peterborough Collegiate History

Peterborough Collegiate was founded in 1827 and the original building was built in 1898.  Since then it has gone through many changes and renovations.  The cornerstone for the current building was put in place in 1907. Peterborough Collegiate consists of many regular classrooms for subjects such as English, mathematics, and social sciences/humanities. We also have 2 gymnasiums, a library, a cafeteria, a woodworking shop and a science lab.
As the only public high school in Peterborough from its opening until the construction of Kenner Collegiate in 1952, Peterborough Collegiate, and its staff and students, have had a long and very rich history of excellence in academics, athletics, community service and extracurricular involvement.
Peterborough Collegiate has played a significant role in the history of the city of Peterborough.  It has many proud alumni (including former Prime Minister of Canada Lester B. Pearson) who continue to support their school and wear their garnet and grey proudly.
Effective August 23rd, 2012 PCVS became the home of Peterborough Alternative & Continuing Education (PACE @ PCVS) We offer the following programs:  Ontario Curriculum Secondary School Credit courses (formerly offered at the Peterborough Campus of the Centre for Individual Studies), the School For Young Moms (SYM), Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS),  Correspondence Courses, and the Suspension/Expulsion Program for the Peterborough area schools.
These programs serve a wide variety of students.  This includes students over 16 years of age and Adult Education students over the age of 21.  Our mandate is to identify the gaps in our students’ educational profiles and then to develop and implement a program that meets their needs as they work toward the achievement of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
